Truly magnificent, this antique rectangular early 1800s Turquoise and Pearl brooch is set in high carat gold. 28 Turquoise beads frames the outside of the brooch with 37 smaller seed pearls sitting snuggly between the Turquoise beads and the blue enamel centre. The blue enamel is also turquoise in colour and is finally adorned with a gold Maltese cross that is accented with 9 smaller and graduating seed pearls.
The brooch is in incredible condition for it’s more than 200 years in age. The symbolism of the tokens used in the brooch is beautiful.
In the Victorian era, turquoise held symbolism of luck, good fortune, and prosperity. Pearls, specifically seed pearls, represented innocence, love, devotion and faith. The Maltese cross held great symbolic weight, specifically of courage, service, and honour.
This magnificent antique brooch holds a convex curved gold backing, with the brooch opening and closing with a c-clasp brooch fitting.
The solid gold brooch is unmarked yet tests positive for higher than 15ct.
The brooch dimensions measures in at 35mm long x 27mm wide. It is magnificent.
