An historic art piece.
A wearable treasure from the Art Nouveau Belle Epoque era.
This magnificent brooch is a free flowing gold form brooch that is instantly recognisable as Art Nouveau in style and design.
Art Nouveau was an international style of art which was popular between 1890 and 1910 during the Belle Époque period. It was a reaction against rigid art and form and was inspired by natural and sinuous curves of plants and flowers, of the female form, with a sense of dynamism and movement.
Pre 1900, Art Nouveau was characterised by depictions such as this brooch - of whiplash movement seen in cyclamen plants, lilies and wisteria.
This magnificent 15ct gold brooch is an artwork of the highest form, with the pastel-flowing-enamel that colours the lily pad leaves and a sweet purple flower.
A water-droplet freshwater pearl dangles below for emphasis of flow and movement.
It is magnificent. A treasure.
Dimensions: 28.5mm wide x 30mm drop.
