This gorgeous sweetheart brooch is a Victorian treasure in the Etruscan Style.
Etruscan revival jewellery is noted for granulation, with this beautiful sweetheart brooch being made of unmarked sterling silver and holding a textured granulated border with a finely hand pierced forget-me-not floral centre.
In Victorian times, the forget-me-not flower held meaning of true love, faithful devotion, and lasting remembrance. As part of the popular "language of flowers," it was given as a symbol that the recipient would never be forgotten, often exchanged between lovers parting ways or used to honour the deceased.
This sweetheart brooch holds the original c-clasp brooch fitting, and with its lovely unusual shape and dimensions of 45mm long x 26mm wide, this brooch would have been a treasured item to wear.
