A truly rare and glorious one of a kind antique token pendant.
This magnificent mid 1800s Victorian pebble art pendant is a gold pendant that boasts an Etruscan inspired Celtic style cross design that is set out in the Scottish Agate stone inlay work.
This mosaic Victorian agate inlay work is colourful and unmistakably Scottish in design.
Scotland is known for its abundance of colourful agate, with Queen Victoria historically having much loved Scottish agate. This resulted in the “Scottish Pebble" craze - highly collectable and much used in sweetheart token jewellery during the Victorian era.
The original agate inlay Victorian pebble pendant has a solid 9ct gold faceted border frame that held a solid gold back with open form to hold special keepsakes.
Historically Memento Mori hair art or a keepsake photo would have held pride of place here, but I have replaced this empty space with a wonderful sterling silver Saint Christopher medallion as token. A perfect marriage of Victorian and Modernist sentiment, form and artistry.
The gold is unmarked and has been thoroughly tested and confirmed as 9ct gold standard.
The Saint Christopher is 925 silver.
The stone gold and silver pendant has a solid combined weight of 11.6 grams. Dimensions: 28mm diameter x 36mm hang. Please note chains pictured are not included in sale.
