An incredible Victorian mourning brooch of great historical significance.
This beautiful brooch dates to the mid 1800s and is a bespoke crafted piece with a black enamel front that is framed by an elegant repoussé Baroque style scroll border.
The gold repoussé border is a high carat yellow gold fill metal with the centre of the brooch featuring a solid gold frame surrounding the hair work panel. The hair work panel is a fine, intricately woven brown to dark grey lock of keepsake hair, set behind an oval glass panel. The glass has a fleabite chip on the inside of the hair-work panel. The gold fill along the Baroque border is in exceptional antique condition. The reverse of the brooch is a plain belly of bonded gold - a thin layer of gold bonded onto a base metal. The brooch is fitted with the original C clasp brooch fitting.
A true memento mori heirloom.
