This antique Victorian era late 1800's gold filled bypass bracelet is adorned with the all original onyx slab detailed with three white stone and gold leaf patterning.
The craftsmanship on this mid Victorian era bypass bangle is incredible.
The bangle is signed "Pat. Dec 16, 1879” - a patent, I believe, for the spring, bypass fitting that allows the bangle to open and expand.
This spring mechanism allows for one of the most comfortable bangles to put on, wear and take off.
A true antique collectors item that is rare and glorious.
The bangle arms are made of hardened steel that has been coated in a black enamel, with the top finials capped with gold accents. Some of the black enamel has worn off the bypass bands, a testament to its antiquity and longevity. The gold fill around the onyx centre is rose gold in tone and has worn off slightly along the corners and on the bottom of the fitting. The gold remains beautiful and perfect for many more years of wear.
The bypassbangle has a closed diameter of 57mm, noting that it automatically adjusts with the spring mechanism to a larger, more comfortable size.
Please note that there is a slight crack in the onyx stone. It remains solid and is not visible without close inspection.
