Rich with sentiment, this exceptionally detailed silver and gold Victorian romantic sweetheart brooch is in the shape of two fan forms conjoined.
Each fan shape holds a yellow gold swallow bird in flight and a rose gold butterfly cut out.
The Swallow Bird was a Victorian talisman for safe travels, with the butterfly representing the human soul, transformation, with a metaphor for the fragile nature of human life.
This darling Aesthetics movement brooch is well engraved with a butterfly style fan engraving with leaf detailing.
The detailing is beautifully done in the Japonisme style of the mid 1800’s. It’s a perfect, unmarked but acid tested sterling silver historic keepsake.
Dimensions: 37mm long x 19mm wide.
