A captivating and historic Victorian Etruscan revival brooch from circa 1860s.

The gorgeous and solid 18ct yellow gold Etruscan Revival brooch is a striking example of the fine antique craftsmanship of the early Victorian era.

Etruscan Revival design was sparked by archaeological discoveries of gold jewellery found in Etruscan tombs in Italy. The ancient Etruscan civilisation flourished in central Italy from the 8th to 3rd centuries BCE, with their ancient jewellery featuring finely detailed granulation and filigree techniques.

This exceptional, hand crafted 18ct yellow gold brooch showcases an expressive lion — a powerful symbol of courage and nobility — perched atop a beautifully detailed Etruscan-style plaque.

The fine granulation work is typical of Etruscan revival style and was meticulously applied by hand, along with hand-etched detailing that frames the central motif.

Typical Etruscan Revival jewellery motifs were of mythological animals or figures, such as lions and sphinxes.

Today, authentic Etruscan Revival pieces are highly collectible and admired for their historic charm, technical brilliance, and symbolic depth.

This exquisite brooch has dimensions of 35.5mm long x 35mm wide and is acid tested as 18ct yellow gold.  The brooch fitting is the traditional c-clasp brooch fitting.  Weight: 7.8 grams.
