The Southern Cross or Crux constellation was first written about by the Italian explorer Corsali in 1516.
The cross is a pointer to the south pole, serving as a celestial and spiritual symbol of guidance and divine blessings.
This incredible, late Victorian to early 1900’s brooch holds the 5 aquamarine coloured paste stones, representing the crux constellation, in a 9ct gold setting.
The springbok centre owns the brooch as a South African made antique piece. Dimensions: 48mm long x 38mm wide.
