This Rare find Art Deco 1920's Egyptian revival 935 signed silver and enamel pictorial panel bracelet is a well crafted celebration of art depicting Pharaoh’s and Egyptology.
Signed with the makers mark GK, this is a silversmith whose pieces, when found, reflects the vintage Egyptian Revival tourist and souvenir jewellery markets from the mid-20th century.
With the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen in Egypt on 4th November 1922, global decorative design and Western Aesthetics was changed for ever.The unearthing revived a romantic fascination with ancient Egypt and it was immediately incorporated into the Art Deco movement.
This 1920’s high grade 935 marked silver and blue enamel bracelet is made up of 6 padlock hinged set panels.
The panels depict different Egyptology, hydrogryphics and Pharaoh and Sphinx scenes. The panels are in a rich gold picture, set against a slightly marbled turquoise enamel panelling. The artistry and craftsmanship shown in the construction and execution of this bracelet is phenomenal. A three part scallop is added for detailing at the top and bottom of each panel section. The bracelet opens and closes with a smaller rectangular box slider clasp. The clasp segment is detailed with a dark blue enamel line frame and secures with a gate latch. The silver marking on the bracelet is both the Egyptian silver era marking and the French attributed 935 silver marking.
There is slight enamel loss on the first 3 panel borders - quite inconspicuous due to the enamel marbling and the gold picture styling (pictured). This enamel damage is reflected in the price, noting that the only other GK enamel panel bracelet similar to this one is priced for selling in excess of R11300.00 internationally.
