A true  collectable and wearable designer mid century modern piece of art. 

This incredible and solid sterling silver Scandinavian leaf swirl necklace is by the Swedish designer Birger Haglund. 

This artisan made, solid silver leaf necklace is date marked for 1946 and is made up of a repetition of 17 double leaf and swirl panels.

Birger Haglund was a master Swedish silversmith who had a long career in Sweden, South Africa, Afghanistan and even the West Indies. 

This necklace, marked circa 1946 was just before Birger relocated to South Africa from 1948-1952. He returned to Sweden in 1952 because he opposed apartheid and later in life he was a U.N. advisor. His works are curated in several Scandinavian museums as well as the Victoria and Albert in London.

This incredible sterling silver necklace weighs a staggering 95.7 grams and has a good length of 45cm.  The leaf links are 28mm wide. 

It is in exceptional near perfect vintage condition. 

The only other necklace version of this design I have found sold at auction for more than R6300.00.
